UPDATED 11:08 a.m. — Two bobcats kittens, along with their mother, have been rescued at Boulder Creek High School in Anthem after forcing an hours-long lockdown of the Jaguar’s campus Monday. One of two kittens was rescued last night from an outdoor drain, where the pair had been trapped since yesterday morning.

“The second one is up in a tree,” Amy Burnett with Game and Fish told North Phoenix News early this morning. “Officials are on the scene with nets and ladders.” BCHS officials later tweeted that the second kitten had been rescued.

Burnett said both kittens will be taken to Southwest Wildlife. Their mother, which had wandered into the desert near I-17 after the kittens became trapped yesterday morning, was tranquilized yesterday afternoon and also taken to Southwest Wildlife, a Scottsdale facility that rescues and rehabilitates wild animals.

“They’ll be reunited and released back into the desert around Anthem,” Burnett said.

There were media reports yesterday of a third kitten, but Burnett said she thinks there were just two. A trap remains in the area just in case, according to BCHS.

Bobcat sightings are common in Anthem and elsewhere in North Phoenix. Game and Fish advises anyone who sees wildlife acting strangely and/or in a spot it shouldn’t be, and the matter seems urgent, to call AZGFD 24/7 at 623-236-7201.
